My Background
I am a product of the public school system. My education through elementary, middle school, and high school, prepared me for college and law school, and has served me well in my career as a lawyer, mediator, and arbitrator. My goal is to give the children attending school in the Lucia Mar Unified School District the best possible opportunities for personal growth. Today’s world brings with it new and different issues and challenges, and with them, the chance to develop values that will guide decisions for a lifetime.
I believe in equal opportunity for all children, regardless of background, culture, or identity. When we support children, when we encourage their openness to others. When we reject bullying, we help develop tomorrow’s open-minded adults. And they, in turn, will be willing to accept and support their peers from all backgrounds.
Collaboration & Respect
Working in collaboration with others is the best way to find solutions to practical problems. We can work together to negotiate differences in a way that best serves our schools and our children. As a mediator and arbitrator, working with both sides of an issue to advance towards a viable solution has been my focus. I will put those skills to work in my role on the Lucia Mar School Board.
Individuals who serve on the Board do so because they care deeply about our children. I believe we are united by a shared goal: creating the best possible learning environment for students in the Lucia Mar Unified School District. Although we may approach certain issues from different perspectives, I would be honored to work collaboratively with fellow Board members to achieve the best possible outcomes for our district.
Listening to Learn
When we give our time and attention to what others say, we learn a great deal. As a rule, no one learns anything while they are talking. I will be cognizant of what parents would like to achieve for their children and what teachers need to effectively instruct and nurture our children. As a parent and grandparent, I have been in their shoes. I am also mindful of the fact that some of the important figures in my life have been inspirational teachers. Those who worked with me, encouraged me, and motivated me from the time I started reading through my college and law school years. I am forever grateful to these giving people. They do what they do because they care.
Making Decisions
The decisions I make on the Board will be carefully considered as they are critical to the well-being of our children. I want to do all possible to assure the presence of dedicated teachers, healthy conditions, and good and functional facilities. I am careful to do the work necessary to review materials relevant to decisions made and to do research to supplement materials as appropriate.
Today’s Challenges
With the growth of AI, our children are experiencing changes to their world at a rate and magnitude unknown to any previous generation. Our students will need appropriate tools to navigate these changes in a positive way including instruction in avoiding unintended consequences.
